Ministry of Justice reaffirms the focus on social and family services during visit to Down Syndrome Kosova

As part of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”, the Senior Advisor Genc Nimoni, also Chief of the Cabinet of the Acting Minister, Blerim Sallahu, together with the Political Advisor, Vlora Limani-Hajnuni and the Director of the Department for Social and Family Services, Blerim Shabani, today visited the organization Down Syndrome Kosova where they were welcomed by the Executive Director, Ms. Sebahate Hajdini-Beqiri.

The purpose of the visit was a closer acquaintance with the services that the organization offers for children and people with Down syndrome, as well as the discussion on the challenges, needs and opportunities for advancing social and family services in the country.

In his speech, Chief of the Cabinet, Mr. Nimoni, said that the focus of this Government but also of the Ministry of Justice has been and remains the improvement and strengthening of social services, underlining that upon taking office, there has commenced a sustainable work for completion of the legal basis and establishment of support mechanisms for organizations that provide vital services to the community. Furthermore, he said that, every year, the Ministry of Justice has allocated 2.5 million euros for social and family services.

Meanwhile, Vlora Limani- Hajnuni, political advisor to Minister Sallahu, said that the Ministry of Justice is in the process of drafting the Draft Administrative Instructions for Licensing and Establishing Social and Family Services Institutions with the aim of creating clear standards and a more functional and fair system.

The Director of “Down Syndrome Kosova”, Sebahate Hajdini-Beqiri, presented the challenges the organization faces, the continuous professional work of the staff and the important achievements in providing services to children. She expressed her gratitude for the institutional support, thanking the Ministry of Justice for the funding of 107 thousand euros for four years, an essential assistance that has enabled the continuity of the organization’s programs.
