Prishtina, 13/03/2026

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla paid a visit to the Center for the Promotion of Women’s Rights in Drenas that is led by Ms. Kadire Tahiraj, center’s director.

Minister Gërvalla was informed of the excellent work that has been delivered over the years to support women and survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo.

“Thanks to the relentless commitment of the staff, the center has provided a safe and supportive environment for hundreds of women, not only for counseling and support but also providing them with real possibilities to win back their dignity and confidence for the future”, said the minister.

During the meeting, Minister Gërvalla was able to talk with and listen to the stories of survivors, who, she said, remind us that every effort and decision is crucial in restoring faith and hope.

“Their voice is a powerful memory reminding us that justice is not simply an abstract principle, but a permanent institutional and social obligation. Every story shared in that meeting reaffirms our responsibility to ensure their sufferings do not sink in oblivion or become relativized or left unanswered”, said the Minister, adding their stories are our responsibility and an eternal commitment to justice.

She reaffirmed the full and unwavering commitment of institutions to stand by each and every survivor, increase support for them and work to ensure every step towards justice is accompanied by dignity, respect and concrete action.

“Because their story is not just a memory of the past. It is our permanent responsibility to ensure the justice becomes a reality rather than a promise”, concluded Minister Gërvalla.
