Minister Gërvalla after the verdict for those responsible for the murder of Liridona Ademaj: Full responsibility for a crime that shocked our society

Prishtina, 21/04/2026
Following the announcement of the verdict against those responsible for the murder of Liridona Ademaj, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice, and National Coordinator against Violence, Donika Gërvalla, has reacted by describing the decision for life imprisonment for Naim Murseli and Granit Plava, as well as the decision for 30 years of imprisonment for Kushtrim Kokalla, as full accountability.
“Life imprisonment for Naim Murseli and Granit Plava, and 30 years’ imprisonment for Kushtrim Kokalla — full accountability for a crime that shocked our society,” Minister Gërvalla stated.
She added that although no judicial decision can bring back the lost life or ease the family’s pain, such crimes — including violence against women and femicide — require a tough, clear, and uncompromising response.
As Minister of Justice and National Coordinator against Violence, Minister Gërvalla reiterated that addressing violence against women remains a daily institutional priority and an ongoing effort that requires continuous commitment.
“The effectiveness of our institutions is also measured by the firmness of the sentences imposed. Sentences must reflect the gravity of the crime, sending a clear message that violence and murder are not tolerated and are not relativized under any circumstances,” the Minister further stated.
She emphasized that the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo remain committed to strengthening prevention mechanisms, improving institutional response, and deepening inter-institutional coordination, so that no case of violence goes unaddressed and no victim is left without protection.
“Our society can no longer tolerate silence or the normalization of violence. This is a red line, and it must be defended with justice, responsibility, and relentless action,” Minister Gërvalla concluded
