Minister Gërvalla Visited the Detention Center in Prishtina: The Functioning of the Correctional System is a Direct Indicator of the Strength of the Rule-of-Law State

Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, together with the Director of the Kosovo Correctional Service, Ismail Dibrani, conducted a visit to the Detention Center in Prishtina, where they were received by the Acting Director of the center, Mr. Salih Ademi.

During the visit, Minister Gërvalla was closely informed about the pre-trial detention conditions, the treatment of the pre-trial detainees, as well as the work carried out by the correctional staff.

Minister Gërvalla stated that the functioning of the correctional system is a direct indicator of the strength of the rule-of-law state.

“The functioning of the Operational Center, the Assessment and Classification Unit, the Transport Unit, and the Correctional Intelligence Unit constitutes the operational backbone of the correctional system and guarantees coordinated and efficient management of processes within correctional institutions,” said Minister Gërvalla.

Furthermore, she stated that strengthening institutional coordination, increasing operational capacities, and consolidating security and oversight mechanisms remain priorities for advancing the standards and functionality of the correctional system.

“Our commitment is uncompromising and unwavering toward consolidating the rule of law, strengthening trust in institutions, and guaranteeing public safety in the Republic of Kosovo,” said Minister Gërvalla.

Minister Gërvalla also visited the prison facilities, where she was informed about their functioning and the services provided, with the aim of ensuring the well-being and fair treatment of all inmates.
