Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, visited the non-governmental organization “Dëshira” Clubhouse in Prishtina, where she was received by the organization’s Executive Director, Mr. Nusret Shillova.
During the visit, Minister Gërvalla was closely informed on the services and activities that “Dëshira” Clubhouse provides for people with mental disabilities and intellectual impairments (PMDII), as well as on the challenges and needs for further strengthening institutional and social capacities for this category of citizens.
Minister Gërvalla emphasized that mental health services are not a luxury, but a public necessity that must remain an institutional priority and an important part of public policies.
“May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and ‘Dëshira’ Clubhouse is a model of exemplary work in providing mental health services in the country. Founded in 2001, this organization has played an important role in rehabilitation, social inclusion, and strengthening independent living for people with mental disabilities and intellectual impairments,” said Minister Gërvalla.
She particularly praised the organization’s inclusive approach, where music and daily activities are used as forms of mood therapy and as tools to encourage communication, social interaction, and the emotional well-being of beneficiaries.
“In this space, there is created an environment that goes beyond formal care and gives importance to the dignity, inclusion, and emotional well-being of each individual,” she added.
At the end of the visit, Minister Gërvalla thanked Executive Director Mr. Shillova, as well as the staff and members of “Dëshira” Clubhouse, for their warm reception and their continuous dedication to supporting people with disabilities.
“This work gives hope and motivates the strengthening of institutional and social cooperation, with the aim of advancing the rights and equal opportunities for all citizens of our Republic, without distinction,” Minister Gërvalla concluded.
