Minister Gërvalla: Together and Loud Against Violence, Silence, and Injustice Toward Women and Children

Prishtina, 21/05/2026
Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, visited the Shelter Center for Women and Children in Prizren, where she was welcomed by the Executive Director, Ms. Jubilea Kabashi.
During the visit, it was discussed on the importance of institutional and societal support for women and children who are victims of domestic violence, as well as the challenges faced by centers that provide protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration services for victims of abuse.
Minister Gërvalla commended the work and dedication of the center’s staff, which since 2002 has provided shelter, psychosocial treatment, and support to numerous women, girls, and children during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
During the meeting, she stated that escaping violence is only the beginning of a long process toward restoring safety, self-confidence, and economic independence for the victims.
“Violence does not end simply by leaving the abuser. What follows is the struggle for safety, self-confidence, economic independence, and the restoration of a normal life. Shelter is only the first step. Empowerment is the real battle. This is precisely where institutional and societal support becomes decisive,” Minister Gërvalla stated.
Furthermore, Minister Gërvalla stressed that combating violence against women and children requires joint institutional and societal engagement, emphasizing that no one should face violence, silence, and injustice alone.
“No woman and no child should ever feel alone in the face of violence. Together against domestic violence, for a life with dignity and without fear,” Minister Gërvalla concluded.
