Minister Gërvalla meets judges and prosecutors: Strengthening the justice system to protect victims remains a priority

The Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla met today, in her capacity as the National Coordinator for Protection from Domestic Violence, Violence against Women and Gender-Based Violence, with judges and prosecutors discussing issues related to the treatment of cases of domestic violence, violence against women, as well as the need for a coordinated approach between justice institutions were discussed.
Minister Gërvalla stressed the importance of the process of drafting the National Strategy for Protection from Domestic Violence, Violence against Women and Gender-Based Violence 2027–2031, which aims to advance inter-institutional coordination, strengthen the pillar of criminal and judicial prosecution, and ensure the full implementation of the standards of the Istanbul Convention.
“The Ministry of Justice remains committed to strengthening the legal and institutional framework, ensuring our justice system is increasingly effective in protecting victims,” said Minister Gërvalla.
In addition, she appreciated judges and prosecutors’ role in ensuring the effective protection of victims, emphasizing that this role was not limited to the formal implementation of the law, but rather it involved professionalism, impartiality, sensitivity towards the victim and a full understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.
Minister Gërvalla said that decisions taken at the right time could save lives, prevent the recurrence of violence and restore the trust of victims in justice institutions.
Minister Gërvalla emphasized no legal reform could achieve its full outcome without the commitment of institutions and professionals implementing the law every day.
“Through continuous inter-institutional cooperation, we aim for a justice system that not only penalizes violence, but also prevents it; a system that listens, protects and guarantees dignified treatment for every victim”, declared Minister Gërvalla.
In conclusion, Minister Gërvalla emphasized that a democratic society was measured by the way it protects the most vulnerable, adding a future in which every victim is heard, every case is seriously treated and in which justice guarantees protection, responsibility and trust for all citizens, is built through a strong, professional and accountable justice system.
