The Caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla participated in the Memorial Academy organized on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the National Hero, Metush Krasniqi.
On this anniversary jubilee, Minister Gërvalla said Metush Krasniqi was one of those heroes that make each nation be proud of them, describing him as a “titan of national resistance at a time when many, blinded by the false glow of ‘brotherhood and unity’” gave in.
She emphasized that, at a time when the freedom of Kosovo was just an ideal that was prosecuted with imprisonment, violence, terror and sacrifice, Metush Krasniqi managed to give this ideal a political form, organization and resistance.
“This was the greatness of Metush Krasniqi. His thinking went beyond the time he lived in and he stood for freedom, though he did not witness it. This was the great dreamer of Kosovo’s freedom. Him and his generation did not enjoy the Kosova they dreamed of. But they had the courage to seek for it. They retained their ideal at a time when doing so would come at a big price. They carried it from one generation to the other, until their dream became a reality”, said Minister Gërvalla.
Speaking about the importance of his legacy, Minister Gërvalla said the works of Metush Krasniqi not only amounted to a glorious chapter of the past, but were part of the foundation on which Kosovo’s political, national and state consciousness was built.
“Even 100 years after his birth, we honor this Hero of Kosovo, a great man of the national ideal and one of the pivotal carriers of that political tradition that never surrendered to history. Today, Metush Krasniqi stands alongside with other great names: at the foundation of our national memory, in the history of our freedom, and in the honor of Kosovo. Eternal glory to the Hero of the Nation, Metush Krasniqi”, emphasized Minister Gërvalla.
