Following the direct and continuous engagement of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as cooperation with the competent authorities of the Republic of Croatia, the citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, Bajram Bajrami, has been released by the Croatian authorities.
Mr. Bajram Bajrami was detained in Croatia on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by Serbia, related to allegations of committing criminal acts of war crimes, as a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
From the very first moments of the detention, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, has taken the necessary institutional actions to address the case, whereby on August 14, 2026, through an official letter addressed to the Minister of Justice of Croatia, Damir Habijan, and the competent authorities, Minister Gërvalla requested the immediate release of the Kosovo citizen, while also raising concerns regarding the use of Serbian arrest warrants against citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
The issue was also addressed during the telephone conversation of Minister Gërvalla with her Croatian counterpart, with the position that the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo cannot be held hostage by such claims of Serbia and that, for issues related to the alleged crimes committed in the territory of Kosovo, the competence belongs to the justice institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
This case is another proof that the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo will not be left alone in the face of Serbia’s efforts to prosecution and detain them through international mechanisms.
The Republic of Kosovo will always stand by its citizens, to resolutely defend their rights, the dignity of the Republic of Kosovo and the truth about our just liberation war.
No one can use justice as a political instrument against the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
