Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, today hosted the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Kosovo, Mary Ann Hennessey.
During the meeting, Minister Gërvalla reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Republic of Kosovo to membership in the Council of Europe, emphasizing that this process represents a necessity that stems from the country’s continued dedication to the rule of law.
“The membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the Council of Europe is not simply a political aspiration, but a necessity that stems from our unwavering and proven commitment to the rule of law and the protection of human rights,” said Minister Gërvalla.
The Minister said that the commitment to the rule of law is being implemented through legal reforms, and, according to her, the fight against domestic violence, violence against women and gender-based violence remains an uncompromising institutional priority.
“This commitment does not remain in statements. Through the operationalization of the Bureau for the Confiscation of Unjustified Assets, as a key instrument in the fight against corruption, money laundering and organized crime, it ensures that no one is above the law, as well as through the implementation of the Strategy on Rule of Law, which aims for stronger institutions and greater citizen trust”, Minister Gërvalla affirmed.
Minister Gërvalla also emphasized that Kosovo not only meets the required standards, but also embodies the fundamental values of the Council of Europe. Therefore, its membership should not be delayed any further.
“The Republic of Kosovo not only meets the standards of the Council of Europe, but stands as living proof of the values that this organization upholds. For this reason, the rightful place of our Republic in this organization should not be delayed any further”, said Minister Gërvalla.
