Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla participated today in the opening conference of Free Legal Aid Week, organized with the aim of informing citizens about their rights and the opportunities offered by the free legal aid system.

Addressing the audience, Minister Gërvalla said the equality before the law is one of the fundamental promises of every democratic state, adding it didn’t measure only by the laws and institutions we build, but through real opportunities for citizens, namely, access to justice when they need.

“Free Legal Aid is not simply a service provided by the state. It is a guarantee ensuring justice is available for everyone, rather than being a privilege only for the well-off people or those having connection, said Minister Gërvalla.

She praised the role of the Free Legal Aid Agency, bringing legal services closer to citizens through regional and mobile offices and cooperation with partner organizations.

“Free Legal Aid today is closer to citizens than ever before. It reaches out to municipalities out there, communities and people who often need support. It reaches out to women victims of violence, to non-majority communities, to social welfare recipients, pensioners, single mothers. citizens who, without this support, would find it much more difficult to seek and find justice”, declared Minister Gërvalla.

Speaking of the results achieved, Minister Gërvalla emphasized the Free Legal Aid Agency and partner organizations have provided during 2025 alone services to more than 10 thousand citizens, proving the importance and impact of this mechanism in protecting citizens’ rights.

Minister Gërvalla reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Justice to further strengthen the free legal aid system, underlining that the rule of law is built not only through the adoption of quality laws, but also by ensuring that every citizen has a real opportunity to enjoy and protect the rights guaranteed by law.
