Prishtina, 29/09/2026
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla received today in a courtesy meeting the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo and EU Special Representative, Mr. Dirk Schübel.
In the meeting, the close cooperation with the European Union in the field of the rule of law and priorities regarding justice reform were discussed and acknowledged.
“The establishment and operationalization of the State Bureau for the Verification and Confiscation of Unjustifiable Assets, the importance of implementing the vetting process, the package of five justice reform laws, the finalization of civil legislation, and the advancement of reforms linked to the Growth Plan are all part of our agenda to further strengthen the rule of law and consolidate justice institutions,” stated Minister Gërvalla.
Minister Gërvalla highlighted the importance of ensuring equal access to justice for all communities, as well as strengthening institutional accountability in addressing domestic violence, violence against women, and gender-based violence.
“The new National Strategy will boldly determine further steps and institutional planning for a faster, coordinated, and effective response,” she added.
War crimes and justice for victims that Minister Gërvalla described as an inevitable duty of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo were also topics of discussion.
“To Kosovo, justice for war crimes is an obligation owed to victims, to the truth, and to future generations.”
Finally, Minister Gërvalla pledged that justice reform would continue with determination—at all costs and without compromise—because, as she stated, the rule of law is not merely a foundation of a democratic state, but rather a guarantee by a Republic in which the law applies equally to all and no one stands above it.
Minister Gërvalla seized this opportunity to congratulated Mr. Schübel on assuming his new role, expressing her readiness to continue and deepen cooperation in the areas of the rule of law and justice reform.
