Minister Gërvalla recalled the attack in Banjska: “We lost a Hero. But Kosova prevailed over aggression, crime and terror”

Prishtina, 24/09/2026
On the third anniversary of the heroic fall of Kosovo Police Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku, during the open act of aggression in Banjska, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla commemorated the Hero of Kosovo, Afrim Bunjaku, the event in Banjska and all members of the Kosovo Police who faced the attack of September 24, 2023.
“That morning, in an organized attack, led and financed by Belgrade, in defense of the Republic, the law, the sovereignty and the citizens of this country, the sergeant of the Kosovo Police, the Hero of Kosovo, Afrim Bunjaku, fell in the line of duty,” declared Minister Gërvalla.
She emphasized that the open act of aggression of September 24, 2023 was aimed at violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity through the occupation of part of the territory of northern Kosovo.
Referring to developments in the direction of justice, Minister Gërvalla said that, three years after the attack, justice has begun to speak with the sentencing of three of the perpetrators involved in the attack.
“The others also have nowhere to hide forever. Radoiçiq, the mastermind of the Banjska attack, the shadowy leader of the Serbian List and the man who led the attack, is still hiding freely in Serbia, in the bosom of Vuçiq in Belgrade. He fled Kosovo, but he cannot escape the responsibility of justice forever,” she said.
Minister Gërvalla said that in the face of this situation, the EU should not turn a blind eye, as, according to her, the attack in Banjska is not only a matter for Kosovo.
“Instead of repeating empty phrases, the EU must clearly and unequivocally demand from Vuçiq the extradition and punishment of all those responsible for Banjska. SERBIA MUST HAND OVER ALL OF THEM. Only in this way can justice be established,” she said.
In the end, Minister Gërvalla emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo will never forget its Hero, Afrim Bunjaku, the Banjska incident and all those members of the Kosovo Police and our security system in general, who on September 24, 2023 repelled the attack and defended the Republic.
“That morning we lost a Hero. But over aggression, crime and terror, Kosovo won, the Republic won. Right and truth won. And in the end, justice will triumph,” said Minister Gërvalla, adding that the Republic of Kosovo will never stop seeking justice until those responsible are brought to justice, wherever they are hiding and no matter how powerful the power that protects them is.
