Minister Gërvalla: Rule of Law is no option but an obligation of the Republic of Kosovo

Prishtina, 20/02/2026

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, has stated that the rule of law is not an option, but an obligation of the Republic of Kosovo to guarantee equal justice and to fight the organized crime and corruption.

“The rule of law is not an option, but an obligation of the Republic of Kosovo. It is an undeniable and necessary duty to guarantee equal justice, to eliminate delays, bureaucratic procedures and political obstacles, to fight corruption at every level, organized crime and any other abuse of power”, said Minister Gërvalla.

Furthermore, Minister Gërvalla highly appreciated the allocation of 44.6 million euros for the Ministry of Justice budget for 2026, calling it an extraordinary increase, compared to the 2020 budget reaching the sum of 29 million.

“These funds will be converted into strengthening of institutional capacities, more effective implementation of justice reforms, acceleration of digitalization processes, support for the correctional system and stronger mechanisms against combating corruption and organized crime,” she said.

Emphasizing there is no strong legal state without a strong justice system, Minister Gërvalla stated the law in the Republic of Kosovo is not negotiable and no one dares to be above the law.
