Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, visited the Association of Persons with Disabilities “Handikos” in Ferizaj, where she was closely informed about the organization’s work, challenges, and needs in providing rehabilitation and support services for persons with disabilities.
During the visit, Minister Gërvalla emphasized that support for persons with disabilities should not be viewed as a privilege or symbolic gesture, but as an essential part of both state and human responsibility.
The meeting also addressed the importance of institutional support for Handikos’ new facility in Ferizaj, as well as the advancement of inter-institutional cooperation aimed at improving conditions and services for persons with disabilities.
“We jointly discussed the importance of institutional support for the new Handikos facility in Ferizaj, and the need for persons with disabilities to have improved access to rehabilitation, social, and support services. These should not be seen merely as services, but as opportunities for a more dignified, equal, and secure life for many of our citizens,” Minister Gërvalla stated.
She also praised the strong cooperation between Handikos in Ferizaj and the Regional Probation Service, highlighting their contribution to social reintegration and the strengthening of rehabilitative approaches within society.
“Strong societies are distinguished by the way they care for all of their citizens. Therefore, support for persons with disabilities should not be seen as a privilege or symbolic gesture, but as a fundamental part of our state and human responsibility. Our Republic is strengthened when every citizen feels included, respected, and supported with full dignity,” Minister Gërvalla concluded.
