The Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla, accompanied by Deputy Minister Genc Nimoni and the Director of the Kosovo Correctional Service Ismail Dibrani, visited Peja Detention Center.
During the meeting, Minister Gërvalla said Peja Detention Center maintained high professional standards, with a clear policy of zero tolerance towards smuggling, continuous staff training and good cooperation with other institutions.
“The positive reports and assessments of local and international monitoring are continuous evidence of the responsible work that is done every day”, said Minister Gërvalla.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the challenges faced by institutions executing criminal sanctions, especially the treatment of persons with mental health problems, infrastructural limitations and the need to strengthen professional capacities.
“Addressing these challenges is necessary to guarantying security, order and respect for the highest legal and human standards”, said Minister Gërvalla.
In conclusion, Minister Gërvalla said the rule of law was only meaningful when security, justice and human dignity went hand in hand and when the authority of the law is stronger than any privilege, pressure or interest.
