The Caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Albin Kurti together with the Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla and the Caretaker Deputy Minister Genc Nimoni visited the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) today. They were closely informed with the work process going on in the areas containing mortal remains suspected to belong to, at least, 23 persons, forcefully disappeared during the last war in Kosovo.

The mortal remains found at three locations in the villages of Kalludër and Jabukë, Zubin Potok, are undergoing the phase of examinations and further professional procedures for identification and documentation. Four DNA samples taken from the mortal remains found in Jabukë have been sent to the Hague for analysis.

Since the end of the war in Kosovo, around 2,700 excavations have been carried out, and this year alone, out of 17 excavations conducted, a total of 30 mortal remains have been found.

They appreciated the Forensic Medicine Institute investments of over 814 thousand euros, which has enabled the modernization of the infrastructure, increased the security and functionality of the facility, as well as the creation of better conditions for the provision of forensic services.

The Investment led to the rehabilitation and modernization of the autopsy room, the Toxicology, Histopathology and Anthropology laboratories. In addition, a modern archive and suitable space for evidence storage has been established, and the spaces for forensic clinical examinations have been improved.
