During her official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, today signed a bilateral Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters with the Belgian Minister of Justice, Annelies Verlinden.
“The agreement between our two friendly countries is expected, among other things, to significantly increase efficiency in combating transnational crime, while also establishing the legal basis for the creation of joint investigative teams and including advanced provisions on the freezing, seizure, and confiscation of assets, the exchange of evidence and information, as well as the obtaining testimonies via videoconference, in line with the most modern international practices,” said Minister Gërvalla.
Through this Agreement, Minister Gërvalla indicated that the forms and mechanisms of legal assistance in criminal matters will be clearly defined, including the conditions for providing assistance, the grounds for refusal, the applicable legislation, and the procedures followed in requesting and executing such assistance.
Minister Gërvalla thanked Minister Verlinden for the warm hospitality and the constructive and fruitful discussion, as well as for the joint commitment to further deepening cooperation between the Republic of Kosovo and the Kingdom of Belgium.
