Acting Minister of Justice, Blerim Sallahu, participated today in the roundtable titled
“Strengthening the Regional Legal Cooperation through close institutional cooperation”,
that was organized with representatives of the Prosecution, Courts and Police of
Kosovo.
In his opening remarks, Acting Minister Sallahu stressed the inter-institutional and
regional cooperation is not only an administrative requirement, but a strategic
mechanism to build a sustainable, efficient and reliable justice system. According to
him, this cooperation is essential to prevent and combat the regional and transnational
crime, including organized crime, corruption, cybercrime and terrorism.
Minister Sallahu pointed out that achievements of 2024 in the field of international legal
cooperation is clear evidence that Kosovo is a serious, responsible and internationally
reliable partner, committed to the rule of law and strengthening its international
subjectivity.
The Director of the Department for International Legal Cooperation, Gazmend Çitaku,
who also attended the roundtable, presented the work and results achieved and
discussed the challenges faced and successes accomplished in the justice international
cooperation.
During the 2024, in the field of international legal cooperation, the Ministry of Justice
has carried out 80 extraditions, 4950 requests and responses and 5 transfers of
convicted persons. In addition, the agreements with Belgium and Austria on mutual
legal assistance, extradition and transfer of convicted persons, as well as the
amendment of the agreement with Albania, have been finalized.
Also, the agreement with Sweden, Slovenia, the signing of the Ljubljana-Hague
Convention and the establishment of reciprocity with Panama in the field of international
legal assistance have been finalized.
