The Government of the Republic of Kosovo, in today’s meeting, approved the draft decision of the Ministry of Justice to request the President of the Republic of Kosovo to grant authorization for the signing of the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Republic of Kosovo and the Kingdom of Belgium.
During the Government meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, emphasized the importance of this agreement for strengthening international cooperation in the field of justice.
“Following negotiations with the Ministry of Justice of Belgium, an agreement was reached regarding the text of the Agreement, which aims to establish a bilateral legal basis and deepen cooperation in the field of legal assistance in criminal matters because this agreement harmonizes procedures in order to enable the most fruitful and rapid cooperation between the two countries,” said Minister Gërvalla.
Minister Gërvalla further added that the agreement will contribute to the improvement and completion of the legal and institutional infrastructure of the justice system in Kosovo, through the intensification of international legal cooperation in criminal matters, consolidating the experience and capacity of our Republic.
Finally, Gërvalla said that the Republic of Kosovo continues to build strong and sustainable partnerships, because according to her, only in this way is the rule of law, legal certainty, the trust of our citizens and the role of the Republic of Kosovo as a reliable partner in international justice strengthened.
